The Rugby Roundtable

ARC-RWC UK TOUR!

Here is the maddest plan of all…  Read on if you want in.

The Alternative Rugby Commentary has begun a worldwide revolution for lovers of ALL BLACKS rugby and with the Rugby World Cup coming in two months, the plan is simple:

To Take The Alternative Rugby Commentary to London for the Rugby World Cup.

But why?  Well for the simple fact that being there ‘live’ is better.  We are planning to bring the ARC to London for 7 nights across the RWC for all ALL BLACKS matches and locate it in one venue for the entire RWC, you will then be able to come and be part of the greatest rugby atmosphere outside of Cardiff Arms Park, Ellis Park or even the mighty House of Pain – Carisbrook.

Forget all these other outfits competing to put you in a ‘positive space’ for their brand, the ARC is about one thing only, rugby and boozing (sorry that’s two) - the rest is just marketing wank.

And for you the intrepid rugby lover, here is an offer if you are not going to the matches.

Entry to 7 ALL BLACKS Test matches for £50 – Offer lasts until July 31st 2007

Send you interest to 007.arc@gmail.com with the subject line ’ARC-RWC UK Tour’ and we will send you more information as the numbers grow – DO NOT SEND CREDIT CARD DETAILS, we will advise you about when and how to make payment for the greatest underground rugby show ever.  But be aware, it is up to you the lovers of ALL BLACKS rugby to make this happen.

The minimum audience target is set at 500 rabid, screaming lovers of the Blackness.

BUT I WANT MORE!

Remember this season is like no other and when it comes to the ALL BLACKS at the Rugby World Cup.

You Want Me On That Mic! – You Need Me On That Mic!

But what is the venue? Surely it will have to be the newly arrived speights pub

Well no, in fact when approached with the idea the brilliant marketers at Lion Breweries, decided that the Alternative Rugby Commentary was not what the audience would want to hear. So not only do they now make the call about which beer you drink at the footy, but also who listen too. That’s why you could consider this a ‘revolutionairy’ idea. Jedi

Just out of curiosity, why London and not Paris?

Becauase of the French…

But serioulsy, there will be hundreds – if not thousands – that do not go to the RWC, I’d like some of them to come to my show, get on it and have a good time watching the rugby.

There’s lots of people; including Kiwi’s, in London so it makes sense to put on a show for those that can’t do it for real. Jedi

Jedi, I live in London and listen to your poscast every week. Love it. I’m wondering though what the incentive is to pay £50 to go to a bar in London and watch the ruggers. Other than you being there why should we pay £50 of beer money just to hang out with a bunch if k1w1’s when we can do exactly the same at the Walkabout for FREE!!

What I’m trying to say is: what’s in it for us?!

BTW – I won’t be able to make the pub QF sorry as I’ll be in Cardiff watching the AB’s SPANK (probably) Ireland in my Cat A seats (which I have two spare tix to if anyone’s interested).

Ben, an excellent point and one that should keep you going around in circles for the rest of your life. There is no reason to pay for a gig if you can get in for free, yes you can go to the WBI with the other antipodeans like you said, but you’ll end up listening to the same old song. Or you can 86 the ‘former greats of the English game’ and get stuck into some ‘real’ organised binge drinking NZ style. I am not holding a gun to your head at £7 per game, but as a wise Jedi once said ‘nothing happens for nothing and nothing changes as a result’ – if you like the tripe pumped out by networks bro then sweet, but the cultural uprising that is being generated by the Alternative Rugby Commentary has got people enjoying the rugby again. Jedi, I can’t believe this is such a hard sell for you!! Anyhow I will be heading from Canada to Paris for the finals if the AB make it (got my tix if the do).I will be in London for the quarters and Semi’s so if you get this off the ground I hope I can get in for a few games at any rate!

Like Ben i already have my ticket for the QF in Cardiff. But would definitley be up for the rest!

One question though, is the offer open to a POM who loves the Men in Black?

I have just seen some of these messages here from your listeners in the UK and abroad. I myself am a huge rugby supporter and got along to my first ARC at the bathhouse a few weeks back.

I was with a large group and just wanted to pass on my thanks to getting my wife interested in rugby. She had never shown interest before and said this was the first time she had ever enjoyed watching it!

So good on ya brother – although now all I get is shit from her about how bad the normal commentary is! Having lived in the UK for 5 years I can put my hand on my heart and say 7 squid per game is nothing for what you get – is like going to a commedy show and rugby match all in one!

Respect

Jedi, i’m not going to be in London for the ARC tour as i’ll be at uni but i feel i should sign up to help the cause, is that cheating!?

either that, or you come to the birmingham uni student union instead!! :) x

Jed, where is it? can we go to only some games (will be going at least 2 AB games, hopefully 3 – got Final tickets) or is only open to buying all 7 at the moment? also, are you doing the opening game Fra v Arg? was going to watch it with a Frog and a Crim, but best not to invite the Criminals into your own home.

anyway, just discovered your website and am soooooo thankful I won’t now have to sit through the awful english attempts. apparently the channel to broadcast usually uses their F1 commentators. Screams of “Go, go, go” just don’t quite suit a rugby kick-off.
