The Rugby Roundtable

A Very Important Announcement.

Kia Ora to you the Rugby Universe,

From next week you will find The Rugby Roundtable on Rugbyheaven.co.nz, yes after 68 episodes on AllBlacks.com we have made the decision to move.

But that is not all.

Rugbyheaven.co.nz is a Fairfax Digital Media run website; the implication of which means that Kev will no longer be on the show because he works for rival media company CanWest, the owner of TV3.  Kev will continue to produce a podcast for the NZRU and on behalf of Staf and I, we wish him every success for the future.  Go the Ginga!

We made the move to part of a very exciting project, the Rugbyheaven.co.nz website already boasts some of the best Rugby journalists in New Zealand and Australia, as well a long list of former great players and coaches.  The one thing RH didn’t have is a podcast, until now.  Now I reckon they’ve got a beauty.

I expect a fair bit of discussion about the move and a bit of lip for doing it.  You might think we’ve $oul-d out, but I don’t think that’s the case, anyway the proof will be in the pudding so listen in next week.

Staf and I would like to thank the New Zealand Rugby Union for the opportunity to be on AllBlacks.com, in particular we’d like to thank Mark Vivian and David Barton-Ginger for their vision in running with such an new idea, and Marc Weakley for his professionlism, skill and commitment to the podcast the whole way.  Thank you guys for your support.

Stay on target.

Jedi

Am informing Paul Tito of your obvious Ginga bias.

He will not be amused!

Hope you know what you’re doing – the Gingamafia will be gunning for you…

You all do not know how unbelievably stinnk I felt this morning when i heard, the news….. such excitment for the weeks new podcast turned to depression in the space of a little over 30min. :(

Kev, good on ya son, hope your new podcast goes well for you, i can tell you that i will be tuning in. And to clarify the issue for good: i am not a ginga, haven’t been and hopefully wont be… You looked so funny that 1 time on 3News coz you looked like you had scoffed 3 pies and not swallowed & once the ginga-bashing started the ball just kept rolling… no malise was intended: Long rein Colonel Ginga!!

To Jed & Staf, may these changes bring about a bigger, better, stronger RRT. Keep up the excellent work boys!!!!

Comment by The Mad, Maaaaad Dutchman

Interesting. Although I will miss hearing you three together, I’ll be tuning in for both.

Comment by Lorraine Tyler

kev, as the sober ying to jeremys raging yang, you will be missed. i dont know who they will pick on now youre gone?

as another person of colour (red), i understand the necessity of the role we play within any group dynamic. the constant jibes throughout our life about our poor tanning potential means that by a certain age, criticism runs from us like water of a ducks (or swans) back. however wrong you were, however bad your predictions for winners, scores and team selections, you just kept coming back for more abuse from the lads.

i look forward to the innaugural ‘kevin “the swan” sinnott hour’ almost as much as the next rrt.

congrats to all on 68 fantastic episodes. for those listeners who have perhaps begun to take for granted the quality of the rrt, i say to you: listen to ‘tah talk’, the nsw podcast. that pigswill really puts things into perspective.

Comment by fraser davidson

Oy. Sad awkward listening, where was the bebop, the hip hop, the second sight of humor, and it wasn’t until the end I found out why.

May all the roads you follow down lead you to amazing things. Thanks for the ride thus far.

One final minnow report before I go. The Eagles got to name a core group and train together for one week….Which is one more week than Tonga has.

As the minnows go, so does the fate of the sport brothers and sisters.

@Jedi
Quite a big surprise, actually!

@All
Ladies, gentlemen and you forwards too, followers of The Blackness, leading citizens of the Rugby Universe and members of Our Little Pub: I believe it is about time we stand up, whenever we are, and give Kev, Staf and Jedi a roaring ovation for three years of RRT podcasts on allblacks.com. Sixty eight (68!) episodes of class, rugby wits and raw passion for The Blackness.

Kev, you will always be one of the three knights of the Rugby Round Table. We are NOT going to miss you because we are going to be listening to your podcast too (twice the fun!). Go you beauty! And we do acknowledge you. Gingas do have a special place in the RU.

Staf, Jed, there will be a big void for you to fill. Thank goodness you have MG 3.4.1.2.5 (French version) to help you out. And you do have some talent on your own (yeah, right!). ;)

Well, as I said before, twice the fun and twice as many things for my wife to get pissed off about. >:)

I don’t know guys loosing the red factor?!! I will reserve judgement until next week but it’s great to have two podcasts to keep me up to date with the blackness!! Good luck Kev, I will be listening from accross the blue.

Comment by Nathan

I don’t really have much to say, so in this entry I will simply take the chance to be critical.
@Gato: three years of Rugby Roundtable on allblacks.com… don’t you mean one and a half?:)

Comment by Lorraine Tyler

Well for the first week on rugbyheaven mate you’ll want to start with a bit of controversy, so here’s some flint for the fire!

Mate tell me, how many Maori are there in the RWC squad? Not the Leon McDonald/Carl Hayman I am a Maori for the purposes of getting a hard game vs the Lions Maori, real Maori boy Maoris?

Struggling eh? Luke McAlister by my count, and he grew up in Manchester and loves it so much he wants to head back there.

In fact probably the three unluckiest players who didn’t make the cut were Maori (Flavell/Gear/Weepu).

Word from the hapu to Singapore is that the camp believe Maori struggle to handle the pressure of pro rugby at this intensity, and as a result have not been able to flourish.

Obviously the selectors are not racist per se, there are 12 brown faces in the squad, Pacific Islanders of varying degrees of Kiwi-ness, and generally they gel together through culture and religion. And they are pretty lucky to have God on their side the way some of them hit the tackle area.

Question is, do we miss anything with not having any Maori in the squad? The traditional Maori flair? the unexpected ad-lib play that opens a game up? the guitar playing even?

I don’t know mate but there’s a pool of Maori players who will be on the sideline this Sept/Oct when the Willy Ellis is being contested and I hope the selectors have made the right decision.

Interesting talking point for you and Staff anyway mate. If you need a foreign correspondent let me know!!!

But… but… but… We likes the Ginga :’(

Oh well, you won’t be gone, i guess, if you’ll have your own podcast. I’ll be looking forward to it.

Good luck to the three (quatre) of you on the change. We’ll be here, as always, cheering for you guys.

May the Blackness be with you!

Comment by Maria

aww man that news made me sad. Still, at least we still have all three of you, just not together. Probably best for Kev’s ego too, there may be less abuse of the ginga if he has his own show!

@Lorraine
Oops you are right! Sorry, my brain is still working in IT years (times 2 or 3 factor).

As with every other facet of life things cannot stay the same for ever. Change is inevitable. And the rugby roundtable is no exception. It is indeed sad that the dynamic threesome is parting company, but i say only good can come from this! We will now not have only 1 but 2 world class podcasts on the subject of our great game!! Kev… good luck son on flying solo, Fear not tho fear, i speak for everyone in saying we’ll stay loyal to the ginga-ness! Jed & Staf… Fair play boys ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Looking forward to tuning in as always!!
Ps. Am a bit concerned about you not having the ginga to take the piss out of but let’s just see what happens eh? Onward to bigger and better rugby podcasts!!!! Cheers Boys!

Comment by Kilted Kiwi

Sorry Kev’s not part of the new make up – was a great podcast, hope his and yours maintain the standard.

Haven’t heard the new 3 man overlap, yet downloading it now.

Looking forward to listening to both as usual & congrates on the last 2 years of solid podcasting entertainment.

Shocking. The unholy trinity is rent asunder!

Can’t do without Kev. I too will be tuning into both.

Comment by spentrails

After hearing both podcasts, I am concerned not that the redhead has left the roundtable, but that he has had to enter the witness protection program.

Calling in by phone? What the f%&*# is going on there?

Regardless I enjoyed both.

Meanwhile…question…

Since the Euros love it so much in the “world game” why not promotion/relegation in the 6 Nations?

Maybe Scotland would be too scared of that.

Comment by The Ugly American

So are the boys going to be blogging anymore? Where are you? I want my entertainment. Prof Thian, don’t make me go up there and go Clint Newland on ya, pal. Worse still, I’ll call the Ginga and rain fiery red hell upon thee and the Staf.

For all you other rugby lovebunnies out there, I happenned to catch the AB’s – Police game at Rugby Park, Lil’ England yesterday and can I say it was a marvellous event (thanks Ritchie).

If you guys have been to a club footy match (and I assume that we all have) that is just what it was like. It was the best footy game I have ever been to. The match was 4 x 15min quarters and was almost a gala affair. This was despite the presense of a large crowd of Christchurch’s finest (no, lads that does not mean the Manchester Street Girls). I actually counted 35 police cars and 5 Fire engines. If I was a thief, it would have been a golden opportunity cause I think that there were very few actual officers on duty who wern’t there!

I found myself standing next to the coach of the Blackness, the Dark Prince himself, at one stage. I looked at him, he squinted at me . I nodded, He nodded back. Life couldn’t get sweeter.

By there end of it the AB’s were handing out a hiding as one would expect and the crowd were calling for the Blackness to relent a little and let the boys in blue sneak through for a pride saver. Glad to report that the lads kept their feet firmly on the plods neck – a good sign for things to come.

Nice also to see Greg Somerville (bet he’s more glad to see us) on the sidelines as well as Comical Ali sussing out the Canterbury climate (watch this space).

Thats all to report from Little England. May all your dreams be black.

Comment by Brownie

Why o why am I living in Punta del Jafa?

I am talking my boss into opening the ChCh branch tomorrow, first thing. I am missing all the good fun
(and besides, I support the Crusaders/Canterbury, Southland and Otago – in that order).

Comment by Gato

there are worse things in life than missing a warm up match. like getting these two muppets for parents:

sorry, way off topic but how awesome would it be to have the 2019 world cup winning captain 4Real Jones.

About Episode 29

The Doctor (gong!) is right about Laporte. He is bringing the game into disrepute! Where are the citing commissioners?

Comment by Gato

dunno if the IRB hav them Gato, but i reckon we set the ref’s ref Paddy onto him!!!

was a bit dissapointed during the week to hear that Fitzy had withdrawn his comment about the Pom’s being fatties tho… :(

Comment by The Mad, Maaaaad Dutchman

Well, he had to be fair.

Having said that, tastier patties for our All Blacks to gobble up. Less fat, you see. A bit tough, though. Very old cows, you see.

Comment by Gato

mad cows more like!!! good to see they got stomped again by the french tho… they were just starting to think they were gods gift to rugby again after thumping a Z grade welsh troop. As mentioned on the RRT last week: ENG v SAM could be a good punch-up…

BTW does anyone know how the angry samoans went against carlos & northampton lst nite???

Comment by The Mad, Maaaaad Dutchman

The blog has gone dormant. Are you hibernating, Jed? ;) Just kidding… I know you’re probably very, very busy.

Comment by Lorraine Tyler

Samoa won 24-21, no appearence for carlos. Hey, you have to admit, us poms are good at deluding ourseleves! it keeps us happy :)

Comment by Livs

All right enough of this s*^t, time something was said on this damn blog; cause thats what it’s bloody well here for!!! Jed, I know your excited and quite possibly in/on your way to London, but it is a bit poor… :(

So, I’m gonna try and get some debate going here:

OK, the Shield match on Saturday. As mentioned by the boys this weeks it does seem to be shaping up as the most pointless challenge ever, but that shouldn’t detract from the fact that this is NZs greatest sporting trophy…

Yes, Harbour have been poor so far this year, but as I read today, their getting the (now-bald) legend Buck in to spark up the fellas for the occasion; if maybe not so much the crowd, Auckland seems to have picked the Warriors for their footy fix. (And bloody go on the Warriors: a proper sell-out for the league boys this week!!!)

So, opinions on the duel this week?? You all know I’m rooting for the Clamydia-ridden Mooloo’s!!! ;)

Comment by The Mad, Maaaaad Dutchman

You are on, Insaaaaane Person from the Netherlands!

Give Jed a break. He leaves this shores on Monday and he is probably drinking all the beer he can. Lets face it, he will be narrating the games AND the only think he will have to quench his thirst will be crap English beer. Lets hope they sell Romanian beer in London, for his sanity’s sake.

Having just slammed English beer, I will now support North Harbour just because that is Buck’s team. The Shield will remain in North Harbour. Pride will prevail and the Mooloos and their supporters will back to Waikato empty handed. Why? Because El Gato says so. And Stef will loose a lot of money and be a very sad bookie.

Aparently the Fragile Froggies (formerly known as Les Bleus) are starting to break like china. They just lost one of their props. The guy broke his leg skying. Imagine what Hayman or Woodcock would have done to him.

Question to all you beauties in Our Little Pub (OLP): have you started decorating your cubicles? Come on! FEEL THE BLACKNESS. Just so you know, the toenails will become black again this weekend (my pedicurist could not give me an appointment any earlier).

GO THE ALL BLACKS!

Comment by Gato

the frogs ‘whooped’ the poms 22-9, scoring one try. sorry but if thats all they can put past that useless shower of sh*te, i wouldnt be worried. staffs right. its just an expanded tri nations.

Comment by fraser davidson

Thankyou Gato, your input is appreciated; because it’s clearly not rational, but hey we’ll just wait for tonight to see yeah??

I do understand Jed’s busy-ness/business (damn dyslexia strikes again…) of late: the World Cup will be all the better for the ARC; I can just see the big fella slouched over a bar somewhere in London, surrounded by dozens of empty vessels.

Not sure about your toenail thing though Gato… it reeks a little too much of Ma’a & his eyeliner for me, but yeah; let’s not just Stand in Black, but paint the World black!!!!!

Comment by The Mad, Maaaaad Dutchman

@Fraser
And who wouldn’t beat England? 22-9 is pathetic.
BTW, really cool stuff of yours on You Tube

@Mad, Maaaaad Dutchman
Cher bro! Wasn’t insanity the idea?
I thought about the eye-liner but I would have gotten too many invites from the gay chapter of the rugby community. I do not think my wife would have been too amused. Toe nails are private, like a tatoo on an intimate area, but without the permanent effects.

@Our beautiful Ladies of the RRT
Where art thee? This little conversation has too much testosterone. Come and play!

Comment by Gato

well, well, well…. harbour copp a 50pt hiding @ the hands of the mooloos 2nite: i’d hate to tell “you i told u so” Gato, but f*^k it, i did & im drunk enuf to say it!!!! :) already booked the tix 2 nxt weeks defence (& it will be) v canterbury in the tron: well lookn 4ward 2 tht, almost as much as RWC kickoff in 14 days 6.5hrs…choice!!!!!

and a thort on the lack of female input…..
its not a coincidence that all the ladies hav left as soon as gingadorio did is it??? ;)

Comment by The Mad, Maaaaad Dutchman

Indeed on NH! But remember that I was only supporting them for the sake of debating with you, my dear Exponent of All Things Insane :)

You are right about the Shield Challenge next week. Things could get VERY interesting. Canterbury would want to get the Log of Wood back where it belongs, but Waikato are specialists on keeping it for looooong periods. And Hamilton is more of a rugby town. Good idea my lunatic friend. I already bought my tickets.

On that final insane comment about the lack of femenine activity, I can only attribute its elevated lunacy factor to the fact you are The Mad, Maaaaaad Dutchman. Give me a break! Are you honestly saying that Kev (sorry mate!) has more intellectual and sex appeal than the rest of us smart, educated, sophisticated, witty and funny members of Out Little Pub? Nothing against the Ginga (respect man, but lets be honest shall we?) but come on, he is a ginga! For any red head to be hot and sexy they have to be women (like my wife, and she would kill me if I call her a ginger).

No man, I believe the ladies are enjoying their last free weekends before the serious part of the rugby year arrives. They are going out, partying, having some relaxation because come September 7th they will be focused on supporting The Blackness.

Comment by Gato

Yes, Respect that Gato!!!!

I indeed agree that the lack of Ginganess affecting female input is a disturbing coincidence, but it did seem bleedingly obvious & needed to be stated!!!!

I would say that the boys enjoyed a good few Waikato’s on saturday night (despite the crap beer that it is), but i really cant see them making th same mistake Harbour did last year & appearing hung-over the next week: Gatland will have the boys well-tuned up for the Defense & i read today that because Rally NZ is on in the ‘Tron ths weekend, the flat-landers have to stay in AKL; so I can just see an anti-Cantab roadblock being set-up on SH1 Saturday afternoon to prevent them getting into Sheild Country to begin with!!!! :)

Comment by The Mad, Maaaaad Dutchman

f*ck it, cant resist. (sorry jed, just preaching the word)

Nice video it is, the latest one. It portrays Jed’s central goals (rugby and piss), as well as his heartfelt love for the word “f*ck”. Has he forgotten how to use the internet lately, though?
